A friend and I recently dined at Maevery Public House, which is nestled in downtown Lake Bluff.
We were greeted by the operating partner and owner Greg Derman; we learned that he was born and raised in Lake Forest . Maevery Public House is his contribution to his neighboring home town.
The menu is designed to share plates or enjoy them individually. If you are undecided on what you would like to indulge, I would recommend sharing plates as it is a great way to experience a variety of dishes from their elevated American menu.
Maevery Public House has four wines on tap. Their white wines are Joe Pinot Gris and Hahn Chardonnay. Their red wines are Hahn GSM which is a red blend and Federalist Cabernet Sauvignon. They do have other varieties available to order by the glass or bottle. I ordered the Federalist and was not disappointed.
Our meal began with fried green tomatoes served with a house dredge, fresh mozzarella and a peppadew remoulade and ordered a side of house dill pickles. The fried green tomatoes were very thick and meaty, punched with garlic and other spices that really made the tomatoes the star of the dish.
For the main course, we shared their popular dish; Berkshire Pork Shank which was served with an aji panca a jus and house grits and the mushroom risotto with wiki mushrooms, roasted tomato, brussels sprouts, green beans and parmesan. The pork shank fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. The risotto was full of flavor and very rich. The pork shank partnered very well with the risotto. It provided a perfect balance of savory and rich.
For dessert, we decided to try cheesecake with blueberry-lavender compote and whipped cream was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. The first taste was so delicious it left me speechless. It was smooth and creamy and packed with flavor. Please make sure you leave room to enjoy this.
The next time you are looking for a great night out for any occasion, please go to Maevery Public House.
