Tanya’s Open Faced Chateau Dumpling Sandwich Is Not Difficult At All!

I grew up with a Bavarian Mother, who cooked from scratch all the time. She has taught me over the years how to prepare of family recipes.

When I was chosen as one of the lucky Mom’s to create a recipe for the back to school lunch makeover, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I have decided to take my Mother’s long time recipe and add a little sass to it. This recipe is very easy to make and I did it in one pot.

Before we get into the cooking, here is what you will need to have on hand. All the products can be found at your local Jewel/Osco (if you are local to the Chicagoland Area) Albertson’s or any other big box grocer.

Items needed:

Instant Pot

3lbs beef arm roast (any beef roast will do)

1lbs carrots cut

2 medium yellow onions

4 cups chopped celery

2tbsp Morton’s Nature Seasoning

2 tsp Better Then Bullion Beef Base

2 cups water

2 tbsp. of olive oil

1 box of Chateau Bread Dumplings

2 tbsp. cornstarch (set aside for gravy)

1 tbsp. flour (set aside for gravy)

Instant Pot getting ready
Instapot getting started

1. Pour the olive oil into your Instant Pot and set the setting to Sautee

2. Once the pot is warmed up add the carrots, onion, and celery into the Instant Pot

3. Next add the Nature’s Seasoning to the vegetables

4. While the vegetables are sautéing salt and pepper the roast

5. After the vegetables are caramelized turn the Instant Pot to slow cook and add the beef roast and water

6. Next add the beef base cover and let the Instant Pot do the rest of the work. I set my timer for 8 hours since I started in the morning. If you are starting in the afternoon, you can set the time to be sooner so it is done for dinner.

With about 30 minutes remaining on the beef take your Chateau Bread Dumplings out of the freezer. Let them thaw for about 5-10 minutes (enough time where you can break the pieces apart). Then follow the instructions on the package. While the dumplings steaming, your meat roast should be finished. Take the meat out of the Instant Pot and take a slotted spoon to get the vegetables out (or you can dump them in a colander then return the drippings back into the Instant Pot).

Now it’s time to make the gravy!

Add the cornstarch and flour to the drippings and whisk it until there are no lumps. Let it simmer for a few minutes. In the meantime take your finished Chateau Bread Dumplings and place them on a plate. Next add the roast on top, followed by the now completed gravy.

You may now eat and enjoy! Bon Appetite!
